Is there a hold?
Greetings!
A sound question to ask before you post a bond to get someone out of jail, especially if there has been a history of previous arrests. I have been a legal marketer for the area of criminal defense for a while and have visited almost every county jail in Mississippi witnessing families not ask the right question. Is there a hold? Most loved ones don’t ask this important question before they pay a bond. It is a question you just don’t think to ask in a crisis. Have seen bondsman not ask this question and fuel the anguish and disappointment of the family when they have met the requirements to secure release of their loved one and told, there is a hold.
A hold is a term used when the person arrested has other charges or fines pending in other county or city jurisdictions that possibly have nothing to do with the origin of what they are currently being held. If the expectation is release from jail, it does not happen when there is a hold.
How a person is processed through the system depends on where they are detained or arrested. Each jail has different processing procedures. With that being said, do not be surprised when this question is asked, (depending on facility) you are told we cannot tell you that information until the bond is paid. This statement means a NCIC (National Crime Information Center) report is supposedly not run until a person arrested is being processed out of jail. Again, each facility has different processing procedures and this is not the norm of the majority of county facilities. I have witnessed this from only a handful.
The variations after asking this question are vast and these few words in this blog by no means cover them. For what I have personally witnessed families should be aware of this important question. To share, comment, or ask questions join the Mississippi Defense Information Exchange.

Always a blessing to share. Dream your world.
